The mission of the Geriatric Research (GR) lies in the promotion of successful aging for the elderly in Taiwan through a wide spectrum of gerontological research. GR aims to:
Integrate all geriatric/gerontological resources and research results for continual improvement of quality of life for the elderly;
Design prospective cohort studies for dementia and high risk population, developing tools for assessing early-onset dementia, and evaluating the psychosocial intervention models;
Maintain the ongoing Health Aging Longitudinal Study in Taiwan (HALST) as an important resource for policy and translational research;
Design and conduct a series of research exploring the issue of aging from multidisciplinary aspects, including: molecular, genetic, cellular, clinical, epidemiological, and social-economic studies; clinical trials for evaluating the strategies for preventing disability in aging population;
Research on frailty, sarcopenia, and disability in older population;
Create risk prediction models for disability in aging population;
Strategize on diversified and personalized models of care for people with dementia and their families;
Research on 10-Year Long-term Care Services Program 2.0, which includes, but not limited to the following themes:
- Analyze the needs and resources for manpower in long-term care systems
- Apply Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Internet of Things (IoT) technology to long-term care services
- Develop an integrated care model which seamlessly connects the acute care, post-acute care (PAC) and long term care systems in Taiwan
- Strategize for long-term care financing schemes;
- Establish a national research institute on healthy aging and welfare
